Rays pitcher Joel Peralta has been suspended for eight games for possessing a foreign substance on his glove prior to the bottom of the eighth inning of his game against the Nationals on June 19. Peralta had been scheduled to begin serving his suspension tonight, when Tampa Bay is to conclude its series at Washington. However, he has elected to file an appeal. Thus, the discipline issued to him will be held in abeyance until the appeal process is complete.
