The Baltimore Orioles called the Rockies on Wednesday morning, wanting to know if center fielder Preston Wilson was still available. A few hours later, Wilson became more attractive, not just to the Orioles, but the Nationals and possibly the Braves and Cubs, after admitting he would be receptive to playing a corner outfield spot for a contender. "Of course I would like to play center field," Wilson said. "But I would definitely entertain moving in the right situation. No question." The Orioles haven't gone any further than expressing interest in Wilson, who trails on their wish list to the Mets' Mike Cameron and Tampa Bay's Aubrey Huff. The Orioles are shopping reliever Jorge Julio, but haven't told the Rockies whom they would consider unloading for Wilson. Washington continues pursuing Wilson, searching for a compromise beyond parting with pitcher Zach Day. The Nationals will not trade outfielder Ryan Church and the Rockies won't accelerate talks unless Washington is willing to absorb at least $3.5 million of Wilson's remaining salary. Wilson can veto a deal to the Nationals. "People want to know why I am not kicking and screaming to get out of here, and it's because I'd like to think I am a better person than that," Wilson said. "When it's time to go, they will tell me."
