Andrew Bailey is hoping to be cleared to start throwing again.
The Red Sox closer, who underwent surgery for a torn ligament in his right thumb April 4, is scheduled for an exam with surgeon Thomas Graham this week.
"It feels pretty normal to me," Bailey said. "I'm hoping Dr. Graham tells me I can start throwing again. Or at least that I'm getting close to that."
Bailey is out of a cast and wearing a wrap on his hand.
"I can do everything except throw," he said. "We're in the strengthening phase of getting it ready. Range of motion is pretty much all back. Just worrying about getting stronger now, then I can start throwing."
