The Pirates are "optimistic" about eventually working out a trade with the Yankees for A.J. Burnett.
The two teams have reportedly been in talks since late last week and a Major League source claimed that only "the money and players exchanged" are yet to be determined.
Pittsburgh wants to increase the portion of the $33 million the right-hander is owed over the next two years that they will pay in exchange for sending lesser players to New York.
