The Cardinals could be without outfielder Matt Holliday for the remainder of their NLDS against the Phillies. Holliday was out of the starting lineup once again in Sunday night's Game 2 and will be examined further when he returns to St. Louis. He is dealing with a tendon injury at the base of his right middle finger. Holliday did not take batting practice on the field or indoors before Sunday's game. He apparently intended to "save it" for a potential pinch-hit appearance. A person with knowledge of the situation described Holliday's discomfort as "excruciating" during and immediately after his three-pitch strikeout in Saturday's ninth inning.
