Rick Ankiel had a standout offseason in spring workouts, but he will be unable to play for the rest of 2006 after undergoing knee surgery.
Ankiel batted a combined .259 with 21 home runs and 75 RBI in 85 games played between Double-A Springfield and Class-A Quad Cities last season.
When drafted, Ankiel was a standout pitcher who threw nine wild pitches in four innings during the 2000 playoffs and never recovered.
