The Detroit Tigers traded relief pitcher Ugueth Urbina and infielder Ramon Martinez to the Phillies on Wednesday for infielder Placido Polanco. Polanco will immediately take over as starting second baseman for Detroit. Urbina had expressed interest in being traded for quite some time now. "He's told us for a while he'd welcome a trade," Dombrowski said, "and we told him we'd try to do that if we could help ourselves at the same time. We feel this deal did this."
