Eric Chavez, who recently returned from injury, has been playing third base and as the designated hitter for the Yankees.
New York has been playing without third baseman Alex Rodriguez for a month, but they hope to get him back in a week or so.
"I'm not replacing Alex; that's not what I'm doing," Chavez said.
"I don't feel that way at all -- maybe that's why I don't feel the pressure. I don't feel like there's any pressure, really."
Chavez is hitting .306 since his return from the disabled list. He missed more than 70 games with a foot injury.
