American League manager Ron Washington announced Sunday that relief pitcher David Robertson of the Yankees will replace David Price of the Rays on the team's active roster for the All-Star Game. Price will attend the All-Star Game festivities but will be inactive for Tuesday's game because of turf toe on his left foot. Because Price was originally selected by Washington, his replacement was to be determined by the manager in conjunction with Major League Baseball. This is the first All-Star berth of Robertson's four-year Major League career. The right-hander entered play Sunday with a 2-0 record and a 1.27 ERA, with 56 strikeouts in his 35.1 innings pitched. His ERA is the second lowest ERA among all Major League pitchers with at least 35.0 innings pitched and his 56 strikeouts are tops among all A.L. relievers. The 26-year-old Robertson is a product of the University of Alabama.
