It may be more difficult than expected for the Mets to trade third baseman David Wright, if they decide to, because of a team-specific option on his contract for the 2013 season. So instead of acquiring Wright with the guarantee of controlling him for at least two full seasons, his new club could lose him to free agency after the 2012 campaign. According to a source with knowledge of Wright's contract, the $16 million team option on his contract for the 2013 season only belongs to the Mets. The development will likely reduce the haul the Mets are able to get in return for Wright.
