The Royals have announced today that the club has claimed left-handed pitcher Robert Fish on Outright Waivers from the Yankees. To make room for Fish on the 40-man roster, the Royals placed right-handed pitcher Henry Barrera on the 60-day DL with a right elbow sprain.
Fish, 23, was a Rule 5 Draft selection by the New York Yankees from the Angels organization on December 9, 2010. The lefty has allowed five runs on six hits in 4.2 innings for the Yankees this spring, walking three and striking out three. Fish, the Angels’ sixth-round pick in the 2006 Draft, is 20-20 with a 5.05 ERA in 126 career minor league appearances, including 58 starts. In 365.2 innings, he has struck out 371 batters.
Last season, the San Bernardino (Calif.) native was 5-5 with a 6.79 ERA in 49 relief outings, striking out 73 in 58.1 innings combined for Rancho Cucamonga (High A) and Arkansas (AA).
