Mets left-hander Johan Santana has suffered a tear of the anterior capsule of the left shoulder and will have season-ending surgery in the near future.
An MRI taken on Thursday revealed the tear.
This is the second straight year Santana has had season-ending surgery late in the season.
"We anticipate he will be able to resume throwing in the spring," the team said in a statement.
