Steve Finley criticized commissioner Bud Selig's timing for an investigation into steroids launched Thursday, only five days before the start of the regular season. The San Francisco outfielder questioned whether baseball officials succumbed to pressure to react after last week's release of "Game of Shadows," a book by two San Francisco Chronicle reporters detailing the alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs by Giants slugger Barry Bonds and other players. "It seems if you write a book about something, there's going to be an investigation," Finley said. "It seems that has followed the publishing of the book. I don't think that's right. You didn't hear anything about this until the book was written."
