If the Pirates keep both Ryan Doumit and Chris Snyder, they'll enter the 2011 season with more than $10 million committed to catchers. For a low payroll team, that's a significant number, which leads many to believe they'll deal Doumit after acquiring Snyder in a trade with Arizona last month. Pittsburgh general manager Neal Huntington said Saturday there is more to the situation. "A big part of it, in our minds, is that it's not $10 million because of the money that came from Arizona," Huntington said, referring to the Diamondbacks' $3 million cash payment in the Snyder trade. "And two, it's not just in catching. With Ryan's ability to play right field and maybe some first base, plus the catching ... if we go with this split time among these various players, it's going to make our offense better and our defense behind home plate better. We need to see how playable Ryan can be in right field."
