Matt Herges was designated for assignment Sunday to make room for newly acquired relief pitcher LaTroy Hawkins on the Giants' 25-man roster. "The whole bullpen is being reshaped," Giants general manager Brian Sabean said. "We felt in letting Herges go that we could cover what his innings would have been with someone else in the bullpen. He was the odd man out." He was 1-1 this year with a 4.71 ERA in 21 appearances. "I remember how game he was taking the ball, how competitive he was," Sabean said. "He was very durable, willing to do whatever he was asked."
