Left-hander Mark Redman returned to Kansas City to have his ailing left knee checked Monday by Dr. Steve Joyce, the Royals' team physician. Redman had swelling in his knee after a two-inning start Thursday against the Texas Rangers. He was scheduled to start on Monday against the San Diego Padres, but the swelling did not subside. The Royals were counting on Redman to be in their rotation after acquiring him in a December trade with Pittsburgh. He was 5-15 with a 4.90 ERA in 30 starts for the Pirates last season.
