Manny Ramirez? agent now claims that his client has not asked to be traded and that potential deals were instigated by the Red Sox.
Greg Genske, who accompanied Ramirez to his first day of training camp yesterday, said the unpredictable outfielder was simply trying to be accommodating by agreeing to be traded if the right deal came along.
?I think it?s been mis-characterized all along,? Genske said. ?I think it?s been a situation over the last few years where the Red Sox have wanted to pursue trade alternatives, just to kind of see what?s out there, and Manny has always been willing to participate in those kind of talks and he?d been willing to keep an open mind and cooperate if the Red Sox decide they want to have trade discussions with another team.
?But right now, the past is the past and, as he said, he?s focused on getting ready for the season.?
When pressed on the matter, the agent relented only slightly.
?It?s been a two-way street, both the Red Sox have considered trade possibilities and Manny has been willing to listen to what they have to say, but at the end of the day, it?s up to the Red Sox whether they want to trade Manny Ramirez and Manny?s going to keep an open mind,? Genske said.
