After complaining of arm fatigue, Pirates right-hander Kip Wells was examined Saturday in St. Louis by surgeon Dr. Robert Thompson. "Kip has had some concerns with some fatigue in his arm," said Pirates general manager Dave Littlefield. "Just as a precautionary measure, we have sent him out to see a specialist in St. Louis. They are now doing some further tests." Thompson, who specializes in vascular surgical procedures, has performed surgeries on at least two big-league players: Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Luis Terrero and Colorado Rockies right-hander Aaron Cook. In both cases, the players suffered from thoracic outlet syndrome, a condition in which a vein leading to the arm is compacted, causing blood clots.
