Reliever J.J. Putz is blaming the Mets for their handling of his elbow injury during the 2009 season. Putz spent more time on the disabled list than on the field. Speaking with CSNChicago.com, Putz, who is now with the White Sox, called last season "a mess from the beginning." He told the site that Mets doctors did not examine a bone spur in his right elbow until he got to spring training, two months after he arrived from the Mariners in a trade. Putz said he pitched in discomfort throughout his two disappointing months in New York's bullpen. He also said he "never really had a physical with the Mets."
