Aubrey Huff, the Rays' most consistent hitter during the past four seasons, had the lowest batting average and home run totals over that span, hitting .261 with 22 homers and 92 RBIs in 2005. Huff is a career .288 hitter major-league hitter and has averaged 27 home runs and 90 RBIs the past four years. The Mets, Orioles, Angels and Mariners reportedly showed interest in the left-handed hitter, but it is believed that there were few substantial negotiations involving Huff. He will make $6.75 million in the final year of this three-year contract.Huff has publicly expressed frustration with his name being connected to trade rumors. "Nothing has really changed," Huff said Friday. "I'm going to play my best. This is a contract year so I'm going to give it all I've got. I still believe that the odds of me being here by the All-Star break are pretty much zero. If I do get traded, hopefully I'd go to a contender. To be honest, I'm actually tired of talking about it." The Rays' most valuable player on the trade market, however, was Lugo, who will earn $4.95 million after the Rays picked up his club option. The Red Sox coveted him as a shortstop to replace Edgar Renteria and a possible leadoff hitter. Since then, Boston reportedly signed shortstop Alex Gonzalez and traded for center fielder Coco Crisp, respectively, to fill those holes. The Cubs and Braves also showed interest in Lugo, who hit .295 with six homers, 57 RBIs and 39 stolen bases. A call to Lugo's cell phone was unsuccessful.
