In a sign of the reduced strength of their farm system, the Blue Jays lost zero players to other teams in major, Triple-A and Double-A portions of the draft. The Rule 5 draft was instituted years ago to help players from being buried in one particular farm system for life. Any player that has been, three years for a college player or four years for a high schooler, in a team's farm system and has not been added to the 40-man roster is eligible to be chosen by another team as long as he is added to the new team's 40-man and is kept in the majors for the next season.
