Bob Castellini said Monday he expects to interview six to eight candidates to replace Dan O'Brien as general manager. It looks like he'll have two of them in-house by the end of the week. In addition to interim general manager Brad Kullman, who will get consideration for the full-time job, Castellini said he plans to hire former Expos and Orioles general manager Jim Beattie as a special adviser this week. Castellini has a specific project for Beattie in the short-term, but the 51-year-old former major league pitcher also will get a look for the GM's job. "I think he's probably going to be a candidate," said Castellini. "But what I want him to focus on while he's here is to take a look at our entire pitching program, from soup to nuts, and determine what our plan is and let me know, because I've never been able to really fully understand what our plan is." Beattie spent nine seasons pitching for the Yankees and Mariners, compiling a 52-87 record and a 4.17 ERA.
