Red Sox chairman Tom Werner said over the weekend that general manager Theo Epstein is "burning the midnight oil" trying to make a big deal prior to the trade deadline. Boston has been linked to Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay, Indians catcher Victor Martinez and Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. "I think we have a pretty good track record of making deals at the deadline that have some impact, but we're not going to give away our best prospects," Werner said. Boston's starting rotation has struggled at the back end, and they haven't hit nearly as well as they have become accustomed to in recent years.
