The Red Sox have placed Kevin Youkilis on the disabled list, a move that they had been hoping to avoid for several days. The first baseman hasn't played since May 5 because of an oblique strain. "There hasn't been a miracle thing yet where I can play," Youkilis said Tuesday. "You'll know when you see me in the lineup. I'm trying." Infielder Gil Velazquez was recalled to replace Youkilis. "We keep day-to-daying it, but what we don't want to do is put him in for an at-bat and turn it into a three- or four-week thing where it could be 10 days," manager Terry Francona said.
