The foot injury that kept Yankees starter Chien-Ming Wang off the mound for a majority of last season is also the reason for his struggles in April. The Yankees say that Wang is experiencing weakness in his hip muscles in the wake of the foot injury. The right-hander confirmed the claim, which could explain his 0-3 start with a bloated 34.50 ERA. Wang said his back "leg came up and I was getting to the front (foot) too quick." That means pitches he was trying to throw down in the strike zone were coming in belt high. "He can't push off," said organizational pitching guru Billy Connors. "That's where you get your push and your torque. His pitches were up in the zone."
