The Mariners would love to trade one of their three highest-paid pitchers, but Carlos Silva, Jarrod Washburn, and Miguel Batista are not hot commodities. "I would like to do a few things in the next couple of weeks. I would like things to happen, but it takes people at both ends of the phone. The other club has to agree if it's a trade. If it's free agency, the player has to feel good by coming here," said General Manager Jack Zduriencik. Silva will make $11 million; Washburn will get $10.35 million; and Batista is set to earn $9 million.
