Expect the Marlins ? who likely will trim the payroll ? to begin shopping first baseman Carlos Delgado and third baseman Mike Lowell next week at the annual general managers' meetings in Palm Springs, Calif.
Delgado's name already has generated dialogue among baseball people at the Arizona Fall League.
Marlins General Manager Larry Beinfest said owner Jeffrey Loria has outlined his payroll parameters for 2006, but Beinfest would not say how they compare to last year, when the Marlins spent a club-record $65 million.
"We've had a series of conversations with Jeffrey. He has given us some direction. We have some ideas we'd like to pursue and follow up on,'' Beinfest said Friday.
