American League manager Terry Francona said on Monday during a press conference announcing the lineups and starting pitchers for Tuesday night?s All-Star Game, that the thought of starting Yankees closer Mariano Rivera in the historic game did cross his mind. ?It [the idea] was presented to me through the media. We talked all week about treating the game with respect,? Francona said. ?He [Rivera] is one of greatest relievers in the history of the game, but he is not a starter.? It remains to be seen who Francona would use in a save situation on Tuesday night with Rivera, Jonathan Papelbon, Joe Nathan, Francisco Rodriguez, George Sherrill and Joakim Soria all on the roster.
