The Rays would prefer that pitcher Scott Kazmir remains on the bench during Tuesday night's All-Star Game because of an arm injury earlier this season, according to The Tampa Tribune. Kazmir started on Sunday, so warming up and getting ready to throw in the All-Star Game would put unwarranted strain on his throwing arm. "Obviously on our part we're a little sensitive with him coming back from the arm injury, but we'll see how he feels today," Vice President Andrew Friedman said. "He threw 104 pitches Sunday, so I'm not incredibly optimistic myself that he'll pitch Tuesday, but we'll wait and see today and make it a collaborative decision and not just ours." Manager Joe Madden admitted that he has already spoken to American League Manager Terry Francona about leaving Kazmir out of his plans. "I would love to pitch in the All-Star Game, I really would, but I understand where he's coming from," Kazmir said. "We're looking at the season, not just one game."
