The Phillies' pursuit of Billy Wagner began in earnest Thursday, as GM Ed Wade said he called the closer, who lives in on a Virginia farm during the off-season, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. The paper reported that the two are expected to meet in within the next two weeks at the offices of his Richmond-based agent Bean Stringfellow. Wagner, 34, saved 38 games in 41 chances with the Phillies in 2005 and made $9 million this season. He wants a 3-year, $27 million contract with a no-trade clause to return to the team; the Phillies are believed to have offered two years with a team option for a third at a maximum value of $24 million, with a limited no-trade clause. the Daily News reported.
