After hearing that the Brewers were on the list of teams the Curt Schilling would consider playing for next year, GM Doug Melvin figured it wouldn't hurt to place a call to his agent, Ed Hayes. "It's nice to see we're on the baseball map," said Melvin, who has tried to build the Brewers to a point where big-name free agents would be interested in coming to Milwaukee. "We have players expressing interest in our club now. We're open to (talking to Schilling). I'm always open to someone who is interested in us. I'm not interested in players who aren't interested in us." Schilling, who went 9-8 with a 3.87 earned run average in 24 starts last season and 3-0 in the post-season to help Boston win the World Series, is a free agent this winter. He made $13 million last season and it is uncertain how vigorously the Red Sox will attempt to keep him.
