The Chicago Cubs reportedly made a late call to Jake Arrieta before completing a six-year, $126 million deal with Yu Darvish.

Jon Heyman reports that Theo Epstein inquired as to whether Arrieta would have been willing to accept "a deal believed to be similar to the one offered to Darvish should Darvish turn them down."

The report doesn't state that the Cubs actually made Arrieta an offer, but rather checked on his interest should they swing and miss on Darvish.
