Andrew Cashner Scouting Report
- Andrew Cashner was the 19th overall selection in the 2008 MLB Draft out of Texas Christian University. The Cubs also selected Cashner in the 29th round in 2007, but he returned to TCU for his senior season. He was also selected in previous drafts by Atlanta in the 20th out of high school and in the 18th round by Colorado after he finished at Angelina Junior College.
- Cashner is 6'6", 185 lbs and was born on September 11th, 1986.
- In 2008, Cashner only threw 20 innings and had an impressive 19 strikeouts, but he had an unequivocally bad 2.35 WHIP and 5.85 ERA, walking 23 batters.
- Cashner was used as a reliever at TCU, but the Cubs believe he has good enough stuff to become an effective starter. He features a mid-90's fastball, a slider and a change, all of which are purportedly very good pitches. These pitches can make him a very dominant pitches if he can sort out his command problems.
- He is more likely to be an All-Star caliber pitcher in the bullpen than as a starter.
