- Billy Beane?s worth as the greatest GM mind of his generation is on the line over the next 18 months. Miguel Tejada is one of the most productive middle infielders to ever grace this planet and is only making $2 million more than Eric Chavez. Chavez still has the potential of becoming one of the greatest left handed third basemen in MLB history, though this season he isn?t even the best left handed third baseman in the AL West, as Hank Blalock?s numbers make the A?s slugger look like Marco Scutaro has taken over the #3. And then with Octavio Dotel out for 1-2 seasons, the hits just keep on coming. The old order of the A?s brand of baseball has passed away. - After being on the disabled list throughout the better part of the last year, Juan Gonzalez and Frank Thomas returned to the diamond within hours of each other and they both promptly got injured. - First base might be a watered down position, but Derek Lee is the most feared batter in the MLB right now. He has been in the 30's in each of the four seasons and it would take a huge meltdown for him not to reach the high 40's, particularly this summer when the wind starts blowing at Wrigley. - Arlington would be a perfect place for Roger Clemens to finish out his playing days, a la Nolan Ryan. The Rangers have a better infield than the Yankees and with The Rocket starting in front of Kenny Rogers, the Roger and Roger frontline of the rotation would make the Rangers the favorites. - The long wait of Jered Weaver and Stephen Drew to sign a contract is finally over and they got P-A-I-D, but the time off should stunt their development. Who knows what kind of player J.D. Drew would have become if he hadn?t had an extended holdout. - Jon Garland and Dontrelle Willis seem to pitch almost every day as they race to double-digit wins. Prediction: Garland will start the All-Star game with 14 wins and not reach 20 for the season. - Talk to me in three weeks, but right now Buddy Bell is the right guy for Kansas City. Sweeping the Yankees is a great start. After a couple of very promising seasons, Tony Pena became a victim of a good manager on a horrible club in dire need of a front and center scapegoat. He will resurface within the next 18 months. Christopher Reina is the Executive Editor of RealGM.com and may be reached at [email protected].
