When the book, ?Moneyball,? came out, it revolutionized the way of thinking for many baseball people and fans. One of the key characters in the book was a catcher from Alabama named Jeremy Brown, who caught the eye of Billy Beane and his team for his impressive numbers, but was mocked by the scouts for look. Now at 26, Jeremy Brown is at Triple-A Sacramento and knocking on the Oakland A?s door. Brown quickly proved his doubters wrong with a strong performance in Class A, where he hit .310 in a limited number of games. However, injuries slowed him down once he hit Double-A, and hindered his development, Brown said. Still, Moneyball was always there for Brown, who said he didn?t know about the story until after the draft. ?I didn?t know much about it,? Brown said. ?After I got drafted, I had dinner with the author Michael Lewis, so I had an idea then what was going on.? Still, Brown said that the book didn?t put any more pressure on him than he already had on himself coming in. This year, Brown has made it up to Oakland on two occasions, where he didn?t record any stats. ?When I finally make it up there, I will be more ready to handle the bigger crowds and the nerve parts of it.? According to Brown, he thinks he works hard behind the plate and calls a good game so his team can stay in the game. This year in Sacramento, Brown has a .283 average with 6 home runs and 15 RBI in 30 games. For now though, Brown will just continue to put in his work and wait for his chance to stay with the big club, even with the jaunts back and forth this season.
