The Opsera is a statistic RealGM Executive Editor Chris Reina created in order to objectively rank teams by how well they hit (OPS) and pitch (ERA).

In order to determine the Opsera rating for each, we take their OPS, multiply that number by 10 to move the decimal point over one place to the right and then subtract their ERA from that number.

All statistics are through Sunday, June 22.

Rankings from last week are in parenthesizes.

1. (1) Oakland Athletics – 4.44

The Athletics continue to dominate our rankings as they lead the American League West by five games.

2. (4) Los Angeles Dodgers – 4.01

Los Angeles trails San Francisco in the standings, but holds down the No. 2 spot here by virtue of their OPS (seventh-best in baseball) and ERA (fifth).

3. (2) Washington Nationals – 3.94

As you might expect, the Nationals have been held together by their pitching staff so far this season. Washington's 3.04 ERA trails only Oakland, while they have a middling OPS (.698).

4. (3) San Francisco Giants – 3.81

Even after back-to-back wins, the Giants have dropped nine of their last 12 games. They scored an average of 3.2 runs in those nine defeats.

5. (6) Milwaukee Brewers – 3.73

Milwaukee may be for real. They have been above-average at the plate and on the mound and are coming off six wins in their last seven outings.
