By Shane Cobb With the countdown to the season dwindling, here are the team rankings. Things are looking bright for the 2005 Champs and not so good for the Florida Marlins. 1. Chicago White Sox- You can?t put anyone ahead of them until they play some games. Adding Javier Vasquez to the rotation and Jim Thome to the lineup makes them even deeper next year. 2. New York Yankees- Coming into the season, the Yankees look unstoppable on paper, well, except for their pitching. Having Johnny Damon leadoff in front of Jeter, A-Rod, Sheff, and Matsui just isn?t fair. However, these are only the team rankings entering the season. I still have the Red Sox winning the division. 3. New York Mets- Money does grow on trees in New York; just ask the Yankees and Mets. The Mets spent a lot of money on closer Billy Wagner and took on Carlos Delgado?s contract, just one year after signing Pedro Martinez and Carlos Beltran to multi-year contracts. Ranking them above the perennial division champs, the Atlanta Braves, wasn?t easy, but with the offseason they had you got to make them the favorites. 4. Boston Red Sox- The front office put the team in a great position to take the division with the additions of Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell. This team should easily be a 90 win team and earn itself a spot in the playoffs. 5. Chicago Cubs- The White Sox aren?t the only team in Chicago to look out for. If the Cubs ever get their starting rotation healthy and at full strength, watch out! If Prior stays healthy, if Wood gets healthy. There are a lot of ifs, but I feel this is the season they put it together. With the addition of Juan Pierre, the offense is going to score a ton of runs. 6. St. Louis Cardinals- The Cardinals will get back Scott Rolen, who was injured for most of the 2005 season. With a few losses here and there, the team should still perform well. 7. Los Angeles Angels- 2005 Cy Young winner, Bartolo Colon, will look to lead the Angels to another division title. With Darin Erstad moving back to the outfield, Casey Kotchman will take over at first and prove to us why he is such a highly touted prospect. The Angels lost Washburn to the division rival Mariners, but signed ex-Dodger Jeff Weaver. Look for the pitching to put the Angels into the playoffs once again. 8. Oakland Athletics- Billy Beane went to work this past offseason signing Frank Thomas and Esteban Loaiza and trading for disgruntled Dodgers outfielder, Milton Bradley. Getting over the 2005 injuries is what the A?s will need to accomplish to get a look at the playoffs this year. 9. Los Angeles Dodgers- The Dodgers were one of the most active teams this past offseason signing Rafael Furcal, Bill Mueller, and Nomar Garciaparra. They also added relief pitching by trading Edwin Jackson and Chuck Tiffany to the Devil Rays for Danys Baez and Lance Carter. The Dodgers will easily run away with the NL West title. 10. Cleveland Indians- The Indians are in a tough spot. They are in the same division as the best team in the league. Cleveland will likely be fighting for the wild card spot with the Yankees, Blue Jays, and the A?s. I see them coming up short again, just missing the playoffs. 11. Toronto Blue Jays 12. Philadelphia Phillies 13. Atlanta Braves 14. Milwaukee Brewers 15. Minnesota Twins 16. San Francisco Giants 17. Houston Astros 18. Texas Rangers 19. San Diego Padres 20. Seattle Mariners 21. Pittsburgh Pirates 22. Washington Nationals 23. Detroit Tigers 24. Arizona Diamondbacks 25. Baltimore Orioles 26. Cincinnati Reds 27. Tampa Bay Devil Rays 28. Kansas City Royals 29. Colorado Rockies 30. Florida Marlins
