Umpires have admitted a pair of blown calls during Game 4 of the ALCS between the Yankees and Angels. New York won the game convincingly, but the calls were horrendous nonetheless. Third base umpire Tim McClelland incorrectly ruled that Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher left third too early when tagging up on a fly ball to center in the fourth inning. Replays showed otherwise. Then, in the fifth inning, Angels catcher Mike Napoli chased back Jorge Posada to third on a fielder's choice by Swisher. When they arrived at the base, Robinson Cano, who advanced on the play, was also there standing away from the bag. Napoli tagged both players, which should have ended the inning. However, McClelland ruled that only Posada was out and the inning continued. "I said in my heart I thought (Swisher) left too soon," McClelland told the Boston Herald. "But the replays showed he didn't. Then, the second one, it showed that Cano was off the bag when he was tagged. I did not see that for whatever reason. So obviously, there were two missed calls. Obviously, or not obviously, but there were two missed calls."
