Atlanta Braves pitcher Jair Jurrjens has been named the June recipient of the National League Rookie of the Month Award presented by Gillette. In four starts last month, Jurrjens posted a 3-0 record and a 1.63 ERA. Atlanta won all four of the games started by the Curacao native. The 22-year-old did not surrender an earned run in his final three starts in June, spanning 21.2 innings in which he yielded just 14 hits. Overall, the right-hander fanned 18 batters in 27.2 innings, allowing 25 hits, seven walks and just one home run. In 18 starts this year, Jurrjens is 9-4 with a 3.00 ERA, and he has a 12-5 record and a 3.37 ERA in his first 25 Major League starts, which included seven starts with the Detroit Tigers last season.
