Former Miami Marlins president David Samson, who now works as an analyst, believes the New York Yankees need to play Giancarlo Stanton in the field in order for him to reach his potential as a hitter.

Stanton hit his fourth home run of the season over the weekend in a game in which he also played all nine innings as an outfielder.

"When Giancarlo can't go down into the video room in between at-bats," Samson said, "and study everything that's wrong with his swing, and look at his toes and his feet, and all the things that he does when he gets so far inside his own head ... he actually is better off."

As a DH for the Yankees, Stanton is hitting .133/.278/.367 with two home runs and 11 strikeouts in 36 plate appearances.

As a left fielder, Stanton is slashing .273/.351/.455 with a home run and 16 strikeouts in 37 PAs. His sample size in right field is smaller -- over 15 PAs he's hitting .143/.200/.429.
