The Washington Nationals were viewed as not only the favorite in the National League East, but also a favorite to win the World Series this season.
They are 8.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves in the division and seven games back in the Wild Card race.
"We are certainly not giving up on this season," Mike Rizzo said.
