Hanley Ramirez has been playing in his native Dominican Republic, putting in extra time on the field.

However, he is not playing shortstop, the position he played for the Dodgers when he was traded by the Marlins during the 2012 season.

Ramirez has struggled at shortstop recently and conventional wisdom would suggest that playing the position this winter would help him prepare for the coming season.

"It's really hard to say, 'Don't play for your country,'" Don Mattingly said. "I'm kind of torn. Selfishly, I'd like Hanley to be in camp playing short every day."
