The Rockies have demoted pitcher Jason Hammel to the bullpen. Alex White will start for Colorado on Tuesday. White mauled Double-A Midland in his last outing Thursday in Tulsa, Oklahoma, allowing just three hits in 7 2/3 innings. He threw 62 fastballs in 82 pitches, sinking it consistently at 93 mph. Hammel's demotion could spell the end of his Rockies career. He's due $4.75 million next year, making him a trade candidate if White and Pomeranz progress rapidly. "It's an eye-opener. I want to be in purple pinstripes, but if it's somewhere else, I have to figure it out," Hammel said. "It's very disappointing but a long time coming. You can't have a guy you have questions about going out there every fifth day killing the bullpen."
