Snell Opts For Retirement Over Minors

Ian Snell decided to retire on Tuesday afternoon after the Cardinals assigned him to the minors.
St. Louis had hoped to keep him in their system as a potential for either a long relief role or insurance for the starting rotation.
"The opportunity wasn't there like he hoped," general manager John Mozeliak said.
Snell, 29, was a non-roster invitee to team's spring training.
