The Mets were expected to meet with free-agent first baseman Carlos Delgado on Saturday. The team has a contingent traveling to Puerto Rico for a fundraiser to benefit Carlos Beltran's baseball academy. Mets general manager Omar Minaya has said that he plans to talk to Delgado about a possible return to the team next season. However, New York is expected to wait and see what happens with some of the bigger bats on the market, like Jason Bay and Matt Holliday, before focusing on Delgado.
