Yankees closer Mariano Rivera pushed the team to re-sign starter Andy Pettitte prior to the season. New York gave Pettitte a $5.5 million deal for the 2009 season, but he ended up earning close to $9.5 million thanks to incentives. Rivera pleaded to Hal Steinbrenner to bring the left-hander back to the Bronx. "I told them that they had signed two of the best guys in CC and A.J. with great numbers," Rivera told The New Post. "But we needed somebody to guide them. Who better than Andy? And look who was on the mound for us in Game 6?"
