Derek Jeter was hitless in New York's doubleheader on Monday, leaving him three hits shy of Lou Gehrig's franchise mark. Jeter went 0-for-8 with a walk, but the Yankees defeated the Rays in both games. The shortstop had never before gone hitless in a doubleheader. The captain is chasing Gehrig's all-time franchise hit record. Jeter has 2,718 hits in his career, second only to Gehrig's 2,721. "You'd like to get it over with," Jeter told the Associated Press on Monday. "Hopefully, tomorrow will be a little bit better." Jeter, never one for personal accomplishments, admitted that it was difficult to avoid the topic. "You think about it, because that's all you're hearing about, especially when you're on deck," he said.
