The Angels selected outfielder Michael Trout from Millville High School (NJ) with the 25th overall pick in MLB's 2009 First-Year Player Draft. Trout was the first, and only, member of the 2009 draft class to make the trip to Secaucus. "There's no where else I'd rather be right now than here," Trout said after his name was called. The 17-year-old's life is about to change dramatically, especially since he spent early Tuesday attending classes in Millville. "This is a great feeling. I've been waiting all my life for this moment," Trout said. He admitted that Major League Baseball told him he was the only prospect to accept an invitation to the draft. "I've had a great time," Trout said. "My phone is ringing off the hook right now, and I got like 50 text messages before the draft." He led Millville to the 2008 conference title while batting .530 with nine home runs, 35 RBI, two triples and 18 stolen bases. He also posted an 8-2 record with a 1.77 ERA and 124 strikeouts in 76.0 innings pitched. "I'm going to sleep pretty well tonight," Trout said, adding that he would have liked to have seen some of his fellow class members. "It would have been an honor to see the other guys here," he said.
