Athletics general manager Billy Beane says that the club can afford to keep outfielder Matt Holliday. The belief all along has been that Oakland would trade Holliday at midseason if they weren't in contention. Doing so would ensure they'd get something in return for the slugger, who will hit the free agent market in the winter. Beane told the San Francisco Chronicle that the team isn't in the type of salary pinch that would force them to break the team up this summer.
