A Growing Problem Between Marlins And Ramirez?
Oct 1, 2014 5:24 PM
Many think of Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez as the face of the franchise, but he doesn't necessarily agree.
"I don't think of it that way," Ramirez said Tuesday. "It's a business. I'm happy my family is set for a long time. It's not going to change how I play baseball."
Ramirez, 25, has said that he wants to play for a long time, but rarely do players spend their entire career with the small-market Marlins.
"A face of a franchise is developed, not anointed," said Marlins President David Samson. "It's not a title easily given; it's earned.
"Hanley is recognizing his value as a leader, but not every franchise has to have a face."
